The sustainable way to grow your money

The concept of purchasing trees is simple. We lease customers a plot of trees on a wholly owned ITAS plantation for a set period of time, usually between 3 to 10 years. Over time the trees grow, increasing in size and value, then at the end of the term, the trees are harvested and sold on the global timber market at a profit to the buyer.

On average each month ITAS sell and export in excess of 80 containers of timber to the global market and have done for a number of years. ITAS own a vast amount of sustainable forestry consisting of trees planted as saplings to huge 18 year old giants, thus creating a constant cycle of timber supply to the global market.

Sales in timber has taken a boost in the last few years as more and more financial institutions and individual buyers are seeing a consistent stream of profits gained from it. Purchasing timber is attractive because timber is a commodity that has a constant, and ever growing demand, across the world offering a low-risk and high-return.

Timber Opportunity Process

Ownership

The ownership formula is simple. In return for the client’s capital; ITAS directly sells an individually allocated plot of trees to the client under a Standing Timber Agreement and Lease Agreement.

What security do I have?

ITAS holds the legal title to the plantations, which are registered at the Incra Land Registry in Brazil. The trees are transfer to the Client under the Standing Timber Agreement and the parcels of land upon which they stand are leased direct from ITAS under a Lease agreement. These documents are legally binding between ITAS and the client. Both the Standing Timber Agreement and Lease are valid and binding for the term, however you can exit the agreements at any point during the term, should you decide to harvest your trees and liquidate your asset.

How are trees converted to money?

During the term of the lease the trees will continue to grow. Consequently, as the trees grow the volume of timber that can be extracted and sold on to the international timber market also increases. At the expiry of the lease term you harvest all your trees and sell them. To assist you, ITAS’ sister company ITAS Brasil will arrange all the contractors to fell, measure, transport and prepare your asset and ITAS will introduce buyers from its own timber exportation programmes.

Early Exit?

The plantations that are available for purchase to retail clients are all established. The main advantage of purchasing established standing teak trees is liquidity over new plantings. Whilst new plantings clearly offer the larger long-term returns vs. capital invested in the early years, the value of the trees doesn’t really start to increase until it approaches the thinning at 8 years of age. Accordingly, with 8, 13 and 15-year-old timber, the trees have an immediate realisable capital value increasing from day one. Therefore, should you need to sell your stock at any time prior to the term expiring, the process is simple. You just request a valuation and if you are happy to proceed ITAS will arrange the harvest and sale of your asset.
